Perth Airshow 2009
A week after the Heart of Scotland Airshow and the airport and its staff at Scone have returned to normal operations!
To conclude the event we will soon include here some pictures and impressions based on feedback from those who participated in the planning and execution of the event, as well as enthusiasts, families, and the public at large who attended the event.
Thanks are due to Gill Howie and her partners at Squadron Prints who worked tirelessly with the Scottish Aero Club to stage the event. Thanks, too, are due to Air Charter Scotland (the airport operators) and the Morris Leslie Group (airport owner) who actively supported the event. Finally, thanks are due to the large number of both Air and Army Cadets and Scouts who provided much of the voluntary effort on the day. Due to the generosity of Scottish Aero Club pilots and SAC Flight Training instructors we were able to provide some 130 Cadets, Scouts, and their leaders with air experience flights on Sunday 7th as our "thank you" for their efforts. Some lucky youngsters even got trips in the Pitts Special aerobatic biplane, the Spitfire and even the Floatplane! The obvious excitement of the youngsters made the whole event worthwhile.
With regard to the airshow, in terms of "customer satisfaction", the vast majority of feedback received from the public has been very positive. To date, in the wake of the airshow I have only received three negative comments. In each case the comments related to deficiencies in administration, not to the content or execution of the airshow itself. We can learn from these points.
A second, charitable, objective was to support the RAF Benevolent Fund, and two local Scone charities. The inclement weather on 6th June may well have discouraged some folk from attending but, nonetheless, in excess of 5,000 people attended. This was sufficient to generate a modest profit from the event, and we are therefore able to make a donation to our selected charities. This will be concluded over the next few days.
We hope you enjoy the pictures we will soon post, and some comments below. For those who attended the show we hope it is a small reminder of an exciting and enjoyable day out.
The Scottish Aero Club comprises some 300 people owning, or sharing, 60 aircraft. We welcome new members whether they are aircraft enthusiasts, aviation photographers, modellers, as well as past, current, and future pilots. As advertised at the show, we can offer trial flights in a range of different types of flying machine.
